Important Places On The Map of Hotels In Charleston SC
My map of hotels in Charleston SC can be divided into a few sections where the majority of accommodation options are grouped. The best and most popular spot is of course Downtown Charleston and the Charleston Historic District, followed by Mount Pleasant, Folly Beach and James Island, Isle of Palms and West Ashley.
Downtown & Charleston Historic District
Downtown Charleston is the heart and pride of the city, and by far the most important place to be familiar with on the map of hotels in Charleston SC. Home to stunning historical architecture, charming design, delicious food guaranteed to satisfy foodies, rooftop bars and water views, Downtown is the #1 place to stay when considering where to stay in Charleston SC.
On the Charleston Harbor you have the green space of the stunning Waterfront Park overlooking the Cooper river and famous pineapple fountain, Fort Sumter and easy access to the city’s best rooftop bars. Right nearby is the pastel colored homes of Rainbow Row. This is also the spot where a lot of boat tours depart from, which is easily one of my favorite things to do while in Charleston.
The French Quarter is home to a lot of the city’s historic architecture, churches and beautiful inns.
Marion Square is a gathering place Downtown, where you’ll find many of the city’s monuments, along with the seasonal Charleston Farmer’s Market. You’ll see it’s right in the center of my map of hotels in Charleston SC along with the historic Francis Marion Hotel.
Some more not-to-be-missed spots Downtown are the Charleston City Market And the College of Charleston, where you can walk the campus and visit their Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art Museum free of charge.
Mount Pleasant : Best Place on the Map of Hotels In Charleston SC For A Discounted Stay
Just across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and the harbor is Mount Pleasant. Here you’ll find the history and events of Patriot’s Point, Shem Creek, Boone Plantation and best of all, lots of hotels within easy reach of Downtown that offer a much more discounted rate. You can even walk the bridge for stunning views and some exciting exercise – one of the best free things to do in Charleston SC.
North Charleston & The Airport
The Charleston Airport is located in North Charleston, just North of Downtown in a more suburban area. You’ll see lots of chain, no-frills hotels on the map of hotels in Charleston SC. Another notable part of North Charleston is the many breweries. Make a day of it using the free Charleston District Brewery Trolley.
West Ashley
West Ashley is across the Ashley River from Downtown Charleston and another great discounted area to stay with a few local restaurants and bars, just a short drive from everything Downtown Charleston has to offer.
Folly Beach & James Island
You’ll see on the map of hotels in Charleston SC that the coastal hotels are grouped into two general areas, one of which is Folly Beach. Folly Beach is the best beach in South Carolina for surfing, with an artsy hippie vibe and laidback atmosphere.
James Island is the town in between Downtown Charleston and Folly. It’s got its own gems, and James Island is also a great place to stay at the beach on a budget.
Isle of Palms
Isle of Palms is a golf destination home to the Wild Dunes resort and perfect for families. Right next door is Sullivan’s Island, which is a nature preserve and absolute treasure to visit for anyone who loves wildlife.
