As soon as I heard there was a place where you can take a nap in the Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez Mexico City airport (MEX) I booked myself a pod for my long layover. As someone who is introverted, having my own space to hangout while I wait for my flight is a game changer. Instead of becoming exhausted after a day in a crowded airport I felt rejuvenated and ready to go once my layover was over! This capsule hotel is perfect for solo travelers. Find out what to expect at the IzZzleep Aeropuerto Terminal 1 capsule hotel here and everything you should know about sleeping pods in airports and what they have to offer.

Quick Summary

IzZzleep Mexico City Airport is a really convenient addition offering an accommodation that is somewhere in between a hostel bed and a small hotel room for a great value. The convenient location means you can quickly get checked into your pod during a long or overnight layover without much hassle.

The pods are equipped with everything you need for a full night’s stay, a quick nap or working remote like a personal TV, fast WIFI and a comfy blanket. They are perfect for solo travelers or anyone who prefers to stay alone in a hotel room versus sharing a room. However, IzZzleep may not be as great for couples who prefer to sleep in the same bed, or people who are very claustrophobic, have mobility problems or are light sleepers.

I would 100% stay in one again, and I hope they add sleeping pods in airports around the world!

How to Book a Pod at the IzZzleep Capsule Hotel

This section contains affiliate links, and I will get a small commission if you are to book a hotel room through these links, at no additional cost to you.

You can use Booking.com for the best prices at IzZzleep Aerouerto Terminal 1. Keep in mind there are two different IzZzleep pod hotels at the Mexico City airport – one in Terminal 1 and the other in Terminal 2. Make sure to book your pod at the correct terminal based on where you’ll be flying in or out from.

You can either book by the night online at the above link or you can book hourly between 6:00am and 6:00pm by calling their reception desk, and that would cost you about $12 per hour.

They have a flexible cancellation policy and their customer service was great when I had to change my reservation. It didn’t seem like they were even halfway full when I was there, so you can probably just walk up and reserve a pod most of the time as well.

Keep in mind that as long as you confirm with reception, they should be able to get you checked in early around 1:00pm. This was the case for me which was super convenient!

Is it Worth the Cost?

Yes, in my opinion the IzZzleep Aeropuerto Terminal 1 pod hotel is well worth the money, especially as a solo traveler. For one night you’ll pay more than you would pay for a hostel bed in Mexico but much much less than you’d pay for a hotel.

Of all the hotels in Benito Juarez International Airport, this one is definitely the most budget friendly. For example, the Hilton in the same terminal quoted me at $200 for a day use room. It had everything I needed to work remotely, take a nap, sleep comfortably and take a shower, all within easy access to my gate.

I wrote a whole blog on the pros and cons of capsule hotels, so you can read more if you’re still not sure if this type of accommodation is worth it for you!

How to Find the IzZzleep Aeropuerto Terminal 1 Capsule Hotel

While sleeping pods in airports are super convenient, sometimes they can be hard to find since they’re often in some of the biggest transportation hubs in the world. Finding the IzZzleep pods within the MEX airport WAS a little tricky, and it didn’t seem like there were many employees hanging out willing to help, but that’s just my experience from this summer and it could have been an off day.

If you follow the directions below you should be able to find it just fine – just make sure to give yourself plenty of time!

  • Find your way to Terminal 1, which is where you will clear customs and immigration. IzZzleep is located before security
  • Find your way to the food area on the 2nd floor (I think it’s labeled as PA) and try to find the Italian restaurant and a Krispy Kreme along with others
  • Once you see those, follow signs toward the long distance buses (Terminal Terrestre), the International Parking Lot, and the Courtyard Marriott
  • Walk down the hallway to the right and you’ll find the zZzleep Hotel between the Courtyard Marriott access and the International Parking Lot

You can also use the Mexico City airport interactive map. Select Terminal 1 and then click the little notch for “Tourists” which shows accommodations. The map doesn’t have all the information about the zZzleep Aeropuerto Terminal 1 hotel yet but it looks like the screenshot below on the map and it’s right next to the Courtyard Marriott, so if you follow directions toward the Marriott you’ll find the zZzleep hotel.

The Experience

Checking in was super easy and at the reception you’ll get a key card which opens your locker and powers your pod along with a little welcome bag with a cloth and ear plugs.

The lockers were surprisingly a lot bigger than I thought they would be. Some checked luggage will fit while others won’t. Mine checked luggage did not, although it was closer to fitting than I thought it would be! Luckily they will hold one item at the front desk for you! Reception is 24/7 too which is really convenient.

I connected to the WIFI right away and found it to be super fast. I didn’t have issues with it at any point. There are separate pod rooms for men and women, while the lockers area and bathroom area are shared. There are several individual bathroom stalls and shower stalls, and the sinks are in the main area. Some people complained there wasn’t enough space to get ready for bed, etc. but when I visited there usually wasn’t anyone in the bathroom area and I had no trouble with space!

If you’re in one of the pods on the top it could be tricky to get up there for anyone who is injured or mobility impaired, especially because sometimes they keep the lights off to the room for people who are sleeping. So keep that in mind and if you decide Izzzleep is a good option for you, make sure to request a bottom pod if needed!

The doors of your pod opens similarly to a plane bathroom. You won’t need your card to get in but you will need it to power up your pod with lights. There’s a little slot inside the doors for you to insert it into.

You’ll see once you’re in they have given you a little water bottle and a blanket and pillow, and I thought the blanket was one of the nicest surprises about this place! It was pretty thick and way nicer than the blankets that typically come on hostel beds.

Now for the size of the pod. I think it was perfect, and about the same size as a very high end hostel bed. I was easily able to sit up, change, move things around and have my big backpack up with me. That being said I’m short, so I’m spoiled in that way when it comes to fitting in small(er) spaces.

There is multiple lighting options in your pod which I thought was really cool. I like the black light best, I’m always into fun lights, but they also have a normal warm white light and a reading light, all of which have dimmers. I will say the touch pad dimmers were a little hard to use but that is no big deal.

You’ll have both a regular charging port and a 3-pronged charging port so you can charge all your devices.

There’s also a fan you can turn on which comes out of little vents. Personally I would have wanted it colder as I sleep at 65 but it was a pretty good temperature! Best time I would probably bring my little hostel fan that hooks onto my bed to make it a little more comfortable.

Chargers, light switches and safe on the wall at izzzleep Mexico City

For anyone hoping to work remote or eat there’s even a lap tray that attaches to the wall. That was really useful for me while I worked.

The TV worked really well and I love how it’s at an angle good for watching while you’re laying down, kinda like if you’re lucky enough to have TVs above your chair at the dentist like mine haha. It wasn’t a smart TV but they were playing a Harry Potter marathon during my stay so I lucked out!! They have normal cable channels for Mexico City. Keep in mind you need to bring wired headphones to listen to the TV because it can’t be played out loud.

Bathrooms at the IzZzleep pods

For anyone concerned about cleanliness or safety, the whole pod felt very clean. The mattress and pillow were covered with some sort of soft one time use sheet, and all of the surfaces were spotless. For safety, each pod has its own fire alarm and fire extinguisher, safe for valuables, plus an emergency unlock button and a button which calls the front desk which I almost accidentally pressed lol!

And for noise – I didn’t hear much while I was in my pod besides when people would enter and exit their pods. Sometimes my pod would shake a little when they would, and at first it startled me but then I got used to it and didn’t notice it.

I also was startled at one point when it started down pouring and you could hear the rain and storm from the pod. I didn’t realize what the noise was, and once I did realize it was just rain the noise was actually pretty soothing.

If you think these sound cool, feel free to read more about their company at the IzZzleep website.

Final Verdict

Overall I would 100% stay in the IzZzleep capsule hotel at the Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez again. As a petite person who likes to recharge with alone time, these sleep pods are perfect for me when I travel solo! The sleep pods are perfect for solo travelers who need space to rest and rejuvenate at the airport and I hope they had these pods at more airports. Make sure to leave a comment with your thoughts if you’ve stayed in one!
